Direct-sunlight estimates for apartment hunters

See the light before you sign.

Find out how much direct sun an apartment gets before you sign the lease. Enter its address. We show when direct sun comes through its windows, hour by hour, in every season. We include the shade from nearby buildings.

Free to try. No account needed.

Three steps, about ten minutes.

No account and nothing to download. The address and a photo or screenshot of the floor plan are enough to begin.

  1. 01

    Your apartment

Type the address, the floor and the unit, and upload a photo or screenshot of the floor plan. Then choose your building on the map and the side of the building your windows face.

  2. 02

    Check floor plan

AI reads your floor plan and suggests where the walls and windows are. You move them if they are wrong. We always use your version, not the AI's.

  3. 03

    Sunlight

See the hours of direct sun in the apartment and a timeline of the day, on any date. Then walk through a 3D model of the apartment and watch the sun move across the floor at any hour.

What goes in

  • The position of the sun for the exact address and date
  • Nearby buildings and their heights, from open map data
  • Your floor plan at real size, with window widths and heights
  • Your floor and the side of the building your windows face

What is left out

  • Weather and clouds: every day is treated as a clear day
  • Indoor temperature, heat and energy bills
  • Brightness in lux (the unit a light meter shows). We do show a relative daylight grade (Low, Medium or High), but no lux values.
  • Checks against real measurements: not done yet

Questions

How much does it cost?
Trying it is free. Having AI read a floor plan uses a credit: you get a few free ones, more when you sign in, and after that you can buy more. Everything else costs nothing: the sunlight results, the walkthrough and the comparison. You can always describe your room yourself instead.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything works without one, and your apartments are saved in your browser. Sign in only if you want them on your other devices too.
What happens to the address and floor plan I enter?
They go to our server and to a few services that find the address and read the floor plan. We don't sell data. Details are in Privacy.
How exact are the results?
They are estimates, not yet checked against measurements in real apartments. See Methodology & limits.
